Senior Walking Routes Specialist
lexcocet Ltd
14 years mapping Ireland's most accessible walking paths for older adults. Coastal routes, Dublin city strolls, and riverside trails that actually work for seniors.
Who I Am & Why This Matters
I grew up in West Cork surrounded by coastal paths and rural trails. After completing my degree in Environmental Management at University College Cork in 2010, I spent five years with Failte Ireland mapping walking routes. But that's when I noticed something important — most trail guides ignored the people who needed them most. Older walkers weren't getting the detailed information they deserved about gradients, surfaces, rest points, and nearby facilities.
So I changed direction. Over the past nine years, I've conducted accessibility audits on more than 80 Irish walking paths, interviewed hundreds of seniors about what actually matters to them, and worked directly with local councils to improve trail infrastructure. I've documented everything from gentle coastal promenades in Cork to accessible urban strolls through Dublin's neighborhoods. My work proves that age shouldn't limit access to Ireland's natural beauty — it just takes the right information and careful route selection.
Now at lexcocet Ltd, I combine field expertise with digital content to make walking route information genuinely useful and actionable. Every route I recommend, I've walked myself. Every detail I publish comes from real conversations with real walkers.

What I Know Best
Coastal Paths & Promenades
Ireland's coastline offers stunning walks, but not all are suitable for older adults. I've assessed accessible coastal routes from Cork to Donegal, identifying paths with proper surfaces, manageable gradients, scenic rest points, and nearby facilities. These aren't generic routes — they're places where seniors can actually enjoy the sea air without worrying about uneven terrain.
Dublin City Strolls
Urban walking doesn't have to mean endless streets and heavy traffic. I've documented gentle routes through Dublin neighborhoods — the Liffey paths, Georgian squares, riverside promenades — that let older walkers experience the city at their own pace. These routes include accessible cafés, rest areas, and interesting stops along the way.
Riverside Walks
Rivers create natural corridors for walking. I've assessed riverside trails in Cork, Limerick, and beyond, focusing on paths with stable surfaces, gradual elevation, and scenic appeal. These walks offer the calming effect of water without the unpredictability of mountain terrain. Perfect for families walking with older relatives.
Senior Accessibility Standards
I don't just evaluate trails — I understand the actual needs of older walkers. Gradient tolerance, surface quality, weather exposure, rest point spacing, toilet facilities, parking accessibility. Every route I recommend meets specific accessibility criteria developed through hundreds of conversations with real seniors who walk regularly.
Route Documentation
I've developed detailed route guides that go beyond basic distance and time. My documentation includes surface type, gradient percentage, weather exposure, rest facilities, accessible parking, nearby amenities, seasonal considerations, and practical tips for different mobility levels. This level of detail helps families plan with confidence.
Community & Council Work
I've collaborated directly with local councils, tourism boards, and community groups to improve walking infrastructure for older adults. This includes advocating for better rest facilities, surface improvements, accessible parking, and clearer signage. Real change happens through partnership and persistent advocacy.
